This weekend I’ve been gathering elderflower blooms to make my own elderflower champagne. I thought it was about time that alcohol got the sustainable living project treatment, but in fact this post ended up being about something slightly different. The landscape here is non-threatening and benign. It is a gentle landscape bursting with subtle beauty. Wild life surreptitiously goes about its business and rarely bothers anyone. There is nothing to be afraid of in the unlit darkness out here. Oh, but there is something creeping towards our house and I am very afraid of it! Aliens, [...] I’ve been feeling incredibly smug this weekend. Why? Well watching my veggies growing safely in their raised beds has made me swell with pride. Our original intention in building the beds was simply to partition off a manageable section of land away from the mass of brambles on our slope.
