Cold Frames

I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels like they are running out of windowsill come the middle of March.  Raising lots of seedlings at once can be a tricky business and cold frames are the affordable solution.  Cold frames are a great resource for starting off hardier seedlings and hardening off more tender seedlings as the season progresses.   Some of the light weight frames featured here can be moved around the plot to warm up soil and start early sowings.

I’ve put together here a great selection of cold frames (all available from Crocus) for you in a range of sytles and prices.  Last year I bought a 3 tier growhouse, it served its purpose well and while I’m still pining for a greenhouse it actually did fulfil a very real need without breaking the bank.  It is a cold frame that looks really attractive in the garden, especially compared to some of my home made efforts!

This practical and durable hardwood cold frame features tough and super insulating twin-wall polycarbonate glazing.  If you have cold and wet soil it’s a great coldframe for overwintering broadbeans and garlic. 40cm high x 100cm wide x 60cm deep.  It has been reduced from £69.99 to £34.99, a great bargain.

This three tier growhouse is a personal favourite.  Made from a rigid, solid wood frame with twin-wall polycarbonate glazing it arrives flatpack but is simple to assemble, the two shelves are removable.  We think it is a super bargain at only £99.99.
